There are big cash prizes for the 2009 stand up paddle race at Paddle Round the Pier, Brighton, UK.

This new 20 mile paddle race will take place as part of the renowned charity water sports festival “Paddle Round The Pier Beach Festival” (Brighton, UK) where visitors are expected to be in excess of 20,000 this year.

Dates: 4th & 5th of July 2009.

Two classes of entrant:

  1. Up to 12’ 6” stock boards
  2. Unlimited class

First prize for each class is £1000 cash

The race will start at the Paddle Village in Brighton and go (running both classes simultaneously) to Worthing Pier and back (a distance of 20 miles). Last year over a shortened course the winner was Ekolu Kalama from Hawaii.

Paddle Director Dave “Sandals” Samuel said “this is the biggest endurance race for SUP in Europe so we hope to see many more competitors coming from across the globe to compete”
