The National SUP Festival (NSUPF) 7-9 Sept 2012

The National SUP Festival (NSUPF) 7-9 Sept 2012 is now in its 2nd year collocated with the National Windsurfing Festival. Its hosts the largest SUP Trade show and its participation is geared towards the general paddler with its non intimating inclusive fun event, which includes clinics/coaching, nutrition and low level sprint and longer distance racing format, but also caters for those newie's to this fast growing waterspout with both male and female instructors.....Or maybe just cruise to enjoy the vibe or play in the waves on the sandbar, all washed down in a unique watersports festival atmosphere which also includes night paddling under the flood lights and an electrifying beach party themed on the 1980s....... This is the one not to be missed..........

The format for this years National SUP Festival (NSUPF) 7-9 Sept is as follows:

Friday 1100hrs Hayling Extreme paddle consisting of 1mile run, 1.5 mile Mbike and 1000m (under 11ft inflatable) Sup Sprint
Industry demo day with organised cruising and sandbar sessions........

Meet and greet from 3pm
Briefing and introductions with Race Director Steve West from 4pm
Informal evening paddling session 5pm (downwinder / evening cruise)
Dinner and drinks 7pm 'Inn on the Beach'
Saturday
Experienced Paddlers / Racers: Briefing 9.30am at the SUP registration tent.
Following the briefing, a series of races will be on offer and will include an 'ins and outs' Battle of the Paddle styled event , involving 3 consecutive and cumulative races, leaving from the shoreline, out around 2 markers set 250m from shore and back, forming a short triangular course.
Board restrictions divisions: 12'6"
Divisions: Men / Women 1st - 3rd

Lunchtime Talk / Clinic with Steve West (Venue TBA)
Paddles, Paddling Technique vs Style, Board Designs
Lunchtime Talk / Clinic with Ryan James (Venue TBA)
Nutrition, training regimes, health / fitness benefits of SUP
Afternoon a mid-distance race of 3-5 miles will take place and could take the form of a downwind or triangular course. Race briefing 4pm. Event start 5pm.
Board restrictions divisions: 12'6" and 14'
Divisions: Men / Women 1st - 3rd

Novice / Beginners: Please attend the 9.30am briefing to express your interest. A series of 'learn to' and 'improvement' sessions will be held during the morning and afternoon. These sessions will be run by a qualified ASI instructor.
Women: Please attend the 9.30am briefing to express your interest. ASI SUP L2 instructor Mandy West, will be mentoring women entrants in a series of 'learn to' and ' improvement' sessions which will involve a mix of on-land and on-water sessions. If numbers are sufficient a course race will be set in the afternoon.
Prize Giving: Following the last race of the day.
Sunday
Experienced Paddlers / Racers: Briefing 9.00am at the SUP registration tent.
Following the briefing, a tag team (names drawn from a cap) series of races will be on offer and will include an 'ins and outs' Battle of the Paddle styled event , involving 3 consecutive laps, leaving from the shoreline, out around 2 markers set 250m from shore and back, forming a short triangular course (open to men and women, but no divisions set aside)
Board restrictions divisions: 12'6"
Divisions: 1st - 3rd

12pm a mid-distance race of 3-5 miles will take place and could take the form of a downwind or triangular course. Race briefing 11.30pm.

Steve West: A lifelong career in ocean sports, Hayling Island's 'original' pro-windsurfer, 2 time world outrigger canoe champion and currently the Academy of Surfing Instructors CEO and head trainer for Europe will be overseeing the SUP events. 25 years lived in Australia and the Pacific, Steve is one of the world's most experienced and successful ocean paddlers and a leading authority on outrigger canoeing and stand up paddle boarding.

Mandy West: Also one of Hayling's 'original' pro-windsurfers, Mandy is one of the countries leading female SUP competitors and downwind paddlers. She is a Level 2 qualified ASI SUP instructor and manager of ASI Europe. www.asisupuk.com/mandy-west
Ryan James: Currently Britain's top SUP racers, Ryan has a wealth of knowledge with regards to nutrition and physiology which form part of his professional career. He is an L2 ASI SUP instructor and has more SUP race miles under his belt than any other British competitor.
